The story of Liberty City begins with Niko Bellic, an Eastern European war veteran who arrives in the city hoping to escape his troubled past after his cousin Roman promises him a life of wealth and success. Instead, Niko discovers Roman is deeply in debt and constantly threatened by criminals.
