He played alongside the 2008–2010 generation, delivering disastrous performances; he played for modest clubs like Parma and Levante and posted modest goal-scoring figures. Yet, he consistently found his way into the Algerian national team's starting lineup because he would unsettle defenders, creating space for Ziani, Matmour, and Saïfi to push forward. He played in the 2010 World Cup and reached the semi-finals of the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations with the generation of Karim Ziani and Matmour.
