Faouzi Chaouchi was a key figure—second only to Antar Yahia—in the famous 2010 World Cup qualifier between Algeria and Egypt known as the "Omdurman Epic." He saved several shots from the Egyptian team, securing Algeria's qualification for the 2010 World Cup. Despite his impressive performance, he never played for major clubs, never moved beyond the Algerian league, and eventually lost his starting spot to Raïs M'Bolhi. He was also known for his aggressive behavior, such as his altercation with the referee during the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations semi-final and, prior to that, his taunting of Ivorian star Didier Drogba during the quarter-final.
