The Algerian midfield powerhouse was capable of playing in any midfield position as well as on the wing. He played for several clubs—including West Ham, Valencia, and Galatasaray—and scored Algeria's first World Cup goal in 32 years during the opening match against Belgium at the 2014 tournament in Brazil. He also won the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations with Algeria. Known for his fierce attacking style and tight defensive marking, he remained a near-constant fixture in the team for a significant portion of his career.
