Kanata Kanabara

Created by Haroosh

Kanbara Kanata is the protagonist of Disciple of the Lich: Or How I Was Cursed by the Gods and Dropped Into the Abyss! and a young Japanese man who is suddenly transported to the world of Locklore, where he is cursed by the gods and thrown into the depths of the Cocytus dungeon. Initially possessing almost no combat ability and struggling simply to survive, he is rescued by Lunaère, an ancient lich who takes him in as her disciple and begins an extraordinarily demanding period of training. Under her guidance, Kanata develops from a frightened and inexperienced newcomer into a highly capable adventurer, mastering swordsmanship, magic, alchemy and eventually techniques far beyond what an ordinary human should be capable of. Despite his immense growth, Kanata remains fundamentally kind-hearted, curious and empathetic, often placing himself in danger to protect others and forming strong bonds with the people he encounters. He is also remarkably adaptable, approaching the strange world around him with a mixture of common sense from his former life and the practical survival instincts he develops in Cocytus. His experiences gradually expose him to the larger mysteries surrounding the gods, the Demon Kings, Lunaère's past and the true nature of the world he has been transported into, forcing him to confront enemies and circumstances far beyond what he initially imagined. His relationship with Lunaère becomes especially important: what begins as a teacher-and-disciple relationship gradually develops into an exceptionally deep bond built on trust, dependence and genuine affection, with Kanata becoming one of the few people capable of breaking through Lunaère's centuries-old isolation. By the later volumes, Kanata is no longer merely trying to survive in an unfamiliar world; he becomes an increasingly important figure in the conflicts surrounding it, while retaining the compassion, determination and loyalty that defined him from the beginning.
